WASHINGTON, Aug 27 - With temperatures soaring and demand for electricity on the rise, the electric grid operator in Texas is reaching out to residents and businesses, encouraging them to join in a collective effort to save energy and keep the power flowing smoothly.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is spreading a positive message, urging everyone to be a part of the energy conservation movement from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time (2100-0200 GMT). During this time, the Texan community is invited to play their part by using electricity mindfully, especially as reserves are predicted to decrease due to high demand and temporarily reduced wind and solar power generation. ERCOT expressed their appeal in a statement posted through their communication channels. "Let's work together, Texas businesses and residents, to make a difference by being conscious of our electricity usage – whenever it's safe and feasible," their message resonated. Having issued a similar call to action on Saturday, ERCOT's earlier conservation plea was met with enthusiastic response from the public. This collaborative effort was so effective that the appeal could be lifted around 10 p.m. that night, showing the Texan spirit of unity. As the sun continues to shine brightly, Houston and Galveston, Texas are still under an excessive heat warning. The National Weather Service shared on Sunday that the day is predicted to be a scorcher, with potentially record-breaking high temperatures reaching up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43.3 Celsius). Despite the heat, the vibrant spirit of the community remains undeterred. The year 2021 reminded everyone of the importance of a resilient grid as Texas faced a challenging blackout situation. However, this incident sparked a renewed sense of determination and investment in the state's power infrastructure to ensure that such occurrences become a thing of the past, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.
