Unbelievable! Japanese Power Giant Joins Revolutionary DemoSATH Floating Wind Project as Co-Investor

In an exciting development, the renowned Japanese utility Kansai Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has joined forces with the innovative Spanish offshore engineering firm, Saitec Offshore Technologies, as a strategic partner and co-investor in the DemoSATH floating wind technology project.

This partnership marks a remarkable milestone, as KEPCO becomes the second world-class utility to join the esteemed DemoSATH Project, joining forces with RWE Offshore Wind, who has been an integral part of the project since 2020. Together, Saitec Offshore Technologies, RWE Offshore Wind, and now KEPCO form a powerful alliance that promises to fuel innovation, accelerate the commercialization of the groundbreaking SATH floating wind solution, and actively contribute to a greener and more sustainable energy future.

The SATH Technology at the core of this project is based on a concrete platform concept with a plug-and-play Single Point Mooring, similar to the technology used for FPSOs, but with the exciting addition of offshore wind turbines installed on it.

Immanuel Capano, the Chief Commercial Officer of Saitec Offshore, expresses immense enthusiasm about the collaboration with KEPCO, considering it a significant turning point for the DemoSATH project. A little over a year ago, Saitec Offshore Technologies, in collaboration with the renewables giant RWE, celebrated the completion and launch operation of their remarkable DemoSATH floating wind unit.

“The DemoSATH project utilizes a 2MW turbine in a full-scale prototype that will be deployed offshore Bilbao and will be the first floating turbine connected to the Spanish grid,” Saitec said at the time.

The ultimate goal of this visionary demonstrator project is to test the technology for the industrialization of offshore wind farms in deep waters. With the addition of KEPCO to this dynamic partnership, the future of floating wind energy is looking brighter than ever before, and together, they are paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable world.
