Google has announced a restructuring that will result in a reduction of roles within its international recruiting division. This move comes as the company recalibrates its hiring strategies for the upcoming quarters.
In a recent video conference, Brian Ong, the head of Google's recruiting division, addressed the team. "We find ourselves in a position where we need to streamline our recruiting team," Ong expressed. "It wasn't an easy choice to make, and it's certainly a discussion we hoped we wouldn't revisit this year. However, given our hiring projections for the coming months, it's the best step forward." Starting this week, affected members of the recruiting department will be notified via email. Earlier this year, Google's parent company, Alphabet, declared a reduction of 12,000 positions, which impacted around 6% of its regular employees. This included some members of the recruiting sector. Notably, despite the prior downsizing measures, Alphabet celebrated a 7% uptick in revenue for the second quarter, surpassing market predictions. Ong further noted that employees affected by the current round of layoffs will maintain their office and online system privileges for an extended period. This decision follows feedback from employees who voiced concerns about sudden access termination during the January layoffs. Courtenay Mencini, representing Google, confirmed the adjustments to CNBC. "While our commitment to attracting premier engineering and technical skills remains unwavering, there's been a noticeable deceleration in our overall hiring rhythm," Mencini stated. "Given this shift and in our ongoing efforts to optimize operations, we've reached the difficult conclusion to resize our recruiting division." Source : SEMAFOR
