In a recent scientific revelation from Brazil, geologists have introduced a new dinosaur species, Farlowichnus rapidus, named for its quick movement. This small carnivorous dinosaur, comparable in size to a modern seriema bird (about 60-90 cm or 2-3 feet tall), inhabited desert areas during the early Cretaceous period, approximately 100 to 145 million years ago. The species was identified from unique footprints, first discovered in the 1980s by Giuseppe Leonardi, an Italian priest and paleontologist, in the region now known as Araraquara in Sao Paulo state. These footprints, distinct from any previously known dinosaur tracks, were found in the Botucatu formation, a geological group formed by ancient dune deserts. Leonardi later donated a footprint sample to Brazil's Museum of Earth Sciences in 1984. This finding enriches our understanding of the diversity of dinosaur life and their adaptations to different environments.
