Charging ahead to sculpt the future of robotics in Pittsburgh, the Robotics Factory proudly reveals its fresh locale at the Tech Forge edifice.

PITTSBURGH – A major leap in robotics development takes place as the Robotics Factory, an entity devoted to fostering, fast-tracking, and proliferating robotics enterprises within the Pittsburgh vicinity, unveils its new home at the Tech Forge structure in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville district. Backed by Innovation Works, the Pittsburgh Robotics Network, and the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative, the Robotics Factory will operate as a vital communal platform, enhancing manufacturing capacities and enabling companies to hasten the market launch of their inventions. Nestled in the core of Pittsburgh's "Robotics Row", the new Tech Forge site is surrounded by a thriving community of robotics organizations at all growth stages, spanning various sectors.

The inauguration of this facility signifies a massive progression in the undertaking, an integral component of the $63 million Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant awarded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative – a consortium of the region's premier university, philanthropic, and private sector contributors. The Robotics Factory offers three distinct programs, catering to a spectrum of needs from concept generation to product launch. The Create program fosters an inventive environment for entrepreneurs, tech experts, researchers, and industry professionals to tackle industry problems through workshops. The Accelerate program propels up to six embryonic robotics startups with funding, guidance, and resources via a rigorous seven-month program. The Scale program grants industry-leading expertise in product prototyping and services, aiding companies in crafting production-ready products with the resources of the Robotics Factory.

The initial cohort of six firms selected for the Accelerate program will transfer to the Robotics Row location as soon as practicable. This new hub will offer comprehensive in-house design for manufacturing, supply chain management, prototyping aid, and access to the region's extensive manufacturing resources. By equipping companies to include manufacturing considerations right from the design inception, the Robotics Factory will fast-track the roll-out of autonomous technologies and facilitate companies to achieve scalability.

"After a meticulous site identification and selection procedure, assessing sites based on a multitude of factors," stated Ven Raju, President & CEO of Innovation Works, "The Lawrenceville site is optimally in sync with the grand strategic objectives of the Build Back Better regional challenge grant while satisfying functional, operational, and budgetary needs."

Echoing this perspective, Jenn Apicella, Interim Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Robotics Network, elaborated, "The arrival of the Robotics Factory at Tech Forge marks a critical advancement in our region's capacity to support, accelerate, and scale robotics companies. The Robotics Factory will act as the nerve center for innovation and commercial business expansion for companies and startups developing autonomous and robotic solutions. Its strategic position will trigger unprecedented collaboration opportunities, paving the way for new and impactful commercialized industry application and adoption. This relocation further strengthens our global robotics ecosystem's influence, spurring economic growth and job creation, deeply rooted in the Pittsburgh region."

The regional EDA grant gears southwestern Pennsylvania to seize a golden opportunity to bolster the regional robotics and autonomy cluster, a sector where Pittsburgh's leadership and prowess receive international acclaim. This grant finances five regional projects, including the Robotics Factory. These initiatives strive to revolutionize individuals, businesses, and communities across southwestern Pennsylvania by offering enduring opportunities in this burgeoning sector.

"Pittsburgh's evolution from an industrial titan to a 21st-century tech hub reflects the region's remarkable talent, globally recognized research institutions, and a vigorous entrepreneurial ecosystem," Ven Raju expressed. "Over the past four decades, the region's robotics cluster has been at the helm of this metamorphosis. The Robotics Factory, in its new dwelling, will serve as a centrally located community resource to support robotics companies from birth to scale, catalyzing job creation and rejuvenating the regional economy."

The focus encompasses promoting inclusivity, targeting those previously underrepresented in employment, wealth generation, and innovation opportunities in robotics and autonomy.

The exclusive home for the Robotics Factory strengthens the region’s robotics cluster and solidifies Pittsburgh’s stature as a global frontrunner in robotics innovation. "Pittsburgh is renowned for housing one of the most vibrant and respected robotics clusters globally. Through purposeful and strategic investments, like the Robotics Factory – the region's pioneer robotics accelerator enabled by our Build Back Better regional challenge grant, we are enhancing this ecosystem, making sure that its opportunities can be tapped into by individuals, locations, and companies of all stages and sizes across our region," voiced Stefani Pashman, CEO of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development and co-chair of the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative. "Less than a year since receiving this historic funding award, we're already making waves. With its first cohort recently launched, the Robotics Factory is truly alive. If you aspire to mold the future with robotics and autonomy, Pittsburgh is the place to be."

"The Robotics Factory will stand as a crucial and distinct anchor asset – a physical hub where community is forged and innovation is sparked. It will be invaluable for the continuous nurturing of the next generation of robotics companies. The Robotics Factory is a unique robotics initiative in how it amalgamates support for acceleration, creation, and scaling all under one roof. It broadcasts a powerful message that the Pittsburgh region is an ideal launchpad, as well as a destination where companies can scale and grow," proclaimed Ben Pratt, regional economic competitiveness officer at the Allegheny Conference.
